To shine the spotlight on her women’s Pre-Fall 2017 collection, Stella McCartney and team took over the Cotton Club in Harlem, New York City. The collection, presented last week, is “an insouciant take on British style with a mix of masculine and feminine,” says Stella.
Clothing with a traditional English essence and unexpected nuances—including detailed knitwear, billowy silks and bold prints in primary colors— were showcased by the models, while entertainers created a 1940’s inspired jazz party.
Keeping the hair on point, Aveda Artists — led by Antoinette Beenders, Aveda Global Creative Director— created special event hair styles that perfectly personified the evening’s vintage vibe.
A feast for the eyes, Stella’s Presentation took us back to a time when 1940’s bombshells ruled. The night included entertainers with the ultimate pinup style created by Aveda Artist Sue Thompson, who used Volumizing Tonic™ for ample volume. Hair was then curled, fashioned into place and set with Air Control™ Light Hold Hair Spray.
Aveda Artist Pro Tip: “Be sure to create a gorgeous, deep side part,” Sue says. “That is the element that will make or break this look.”
True to Stella McCartney form, the women had beautifully simple hair to keep the focus on Stella’s stunning collection. In creating the looks, Antoinette gave the models luxurious blow outs and then used Pure Abundance™ Style-Prep™ and Damage Remedy™ Split End Repair to bring out the models’ natural textures.
Aveda Artist Pro Tip: “Don’t be afraid to let your natural texture shine through,” Antoinette says. “You want your hair style to emulate your distinct personality.”
Aveda Artist Pro Tip: “When you apply the gel, start from the back and work your way forward using a comb to evenly distribute the gel to create a more polished look,” Ricardo says.
